Description
Located at an altitude of 3,670m, Uyuni is a city in the Potosí department and capital of Antonio Quijarro province. It sits 150 km southwest of Potosí. This region has a very dry climate with barely more than 190mm of rainfall annually. Agriculture is scarce in the area.
Just 3 km from the city center, along an abandoned railway line, a site houses a collection of vintage steam locomotives and old wagons once used to reach the Pacific coast and the port of Antofagasta. The city is also home to Radio Mallku station, which broadcasts across the salt flat and the Bolivian Altiplano.
