Norilsk is an industrial city in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. Its population was 176,251 inhabitants in 2015. Located north of the Arctic Circle, it is considered the northernmost and coldest city in the world with a population exceeding 100,000. Norilsk was founded alongside Norillag, a branch of the Gulag. It is also one of the most polluted cities in the world. Access is restricted and can only be reached by plane or by boat in summer via the Yenisei River. An 80 km railway connects Norilsk to the port of Dudinka on the Yenisei.
