Metz is a French municipality located in the Moselle department. As the departmental prefecture, it has been part of the Grand Est administrative region since January 1, 2016, and hosts its plenary assemblies. Metz is situated in the historic Lorraine region and was the capital of the Lorraine administrative region from 1982 to 2015.
