Description
Vast, yet frequently modified, retaining from its origins only an old, squat and massive tower, recognizable by its weathered patina among more recent constructions, Combreux Castle was part of the royal domain when in 1108 King Louis VI, called the Fat, pressed for money, pawned it.
Since then, it has belonged to a long line of high and powerful lords whose names are engraved on a marble plaque in the antechamber, from Guy de Senlis de la Tour, who became its owner in 1124, to the La Rochefoucauld family, dukes of Estissac, who still hold it today.
