Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, is the most visited monument in France. Located in the historic center of Paris at the tip of Île de la Cité, its construction began in the Middle Ages. Work started in the 13th century and was completed in the 15th century. Heavily damaged during the French Revolution, the cathedral underwent restoration in the 19th century under architect Viollet-le-Duc. Numerous visitors admire the stained glass and rose windows, the towers, the spire and the gargoyles. They can also discover the Notre-Dame Treasury and attempt to climb the towers for panoramic views of Paris. In 2013, Notre-Dame celebrated its 850th anniversary. For this jubilee, numerous events were organized and the cathedral renewed its bell heritage with the arrival of eight new bells and a new bourdon.
